Zionist occupation authorities have engaged over the past years in chasing the leaders of the Palestinian people who struggle and defend honor and dignity of the Arab and Islamic nations and sanctities. Occupation authorities arrest them sometimes on charge of void accusations, demolish their homes to intimidate them and sometimes deport and exile them.
Among those heroes is Sheikh Raed Salah, head of the Islamic movement in the occupied territories in 1948. The Zionist entity has sentenced him to serve 5 months in prison in the Zionist jail of Ramlah. This sentence put into force on Sunday (25-7).
"Palestinian Information Center" has highlighted this serious issue to see indications of the arrest of Sheikh Raed Salah, its consequences and what is required to complete his career which is full of victories.
The knight of al-Aqsa Mosque
In this context, Dr. Abdel Sattar Qassem, a professor of political science, said in an exclusive statement to the "Palestinian Information Center": "Sheikh Salah is targeted by the occupation because he is one of activists whose names stuck to the al-Aqsa Mosque. He is the knight of the al-Aqsa Mosque. Not surprisingly, he was arrested."
On his part, Hussam Odwan, a political analyst, sees that arresting Salah is an old new policy pursued by the occupation against all activists and leaders of the Palestinian people since the inception of the national action. The occupation sometimes arrest them under various pretexts, assassinate them and demolish their homes. This policy has been pursued since the Nakba "catastrophe" of 1948 and is not strange to the Zionist entity which committed the most horrendous crimes against our people.
"The arrest indicates that Salah was doing something large organizations cannot do. It was exposing the schemes of occupation and defending the holy sites which posed an imminent threat to the Zionist entity," Hussam Odwan said in an exclusive statement to the "Palestinian Information Center": "The enemy tried to fabricate stories against the Palestinian strugglers to deter them from continuing the approach of resistance which uncovers the enemy and its schemes." He also pointed out that the occupation depends on using violence to deter them, and stressed that these policies will not succeed because thousands of resistance leaders were born: "The occupation which claims to be democratic has used violence, force and racism against Salah. Whenever the enemy feels powerless, it desperately seeks to search for more acceptable solutions to the Zionist street which uncover its real face and make it commit crimes such as the crime committed against Salah."
Odwan maintained that official Arab regimes directly bear a part of what is happening in Jerusalem and to Salah. If these regimes had been playing their entrusted role and taking firm stands against the arrogance of the occupation, the occupation would not have dared to arrest a leader of the Palestinian people and the Islamic action who is considered the biggest defender of Muslims.
Professor Naim Baroud, a political analyst, agreed with Odwan, saying: Arresting Salah comes in the context of the Zionist attack against al-Aqsa Mosque. Salah is an integral part of the al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem. He is also the defender and spokesperson of the al-Aqsa Mosque who uncovers the committed crimes against it by the occupation. As a result, the occupation arrested him to stay away in prison so that it can extinguish the features of the al-Aqsa Mosque, muting people and distorting Salah’s image because he was a symbol of the holy sites.
As for the consequences of the arrest of Salah, Baroud said: "imprisoning Sheikh Salah will greatly affect and reduce the advantages and efficiency of the defense of the holy sites," however, the policy of exposing the Zionist entity and his policies will abate a little, but there are some faithful people who have dedicated themselves to the defense of Jerusalem so that the voice of Sheikh Salah will not mute, but will continue to echo so high calling to defend the Noble Mosque and to mobilize Muslims. Even though he was arrested, Jerusalem will still be defendable.
As for Qassem, he confirmed that Jerusalem and the al-Aqsa Mosque are subject to Judaization. Sheikh Salah was playing a very prominent role through media in exposing the crimes of the Zionist entity and somewhat disrupting its policies. Qassem maintained that Salah being in jail would weaken Jerusalem from a media point of view.
Odwan sees that the institutions established by Sheikh Salah will complete his role. Our People has experiences. They turned prisons into a school of resistance, steadfastness, challenge and inspiration. Sheikh Salah being arrested would breed more capabilities and faithful people of the nation to continue his career in resistance and confronting the schemes of the occupation.
Fears and expectations
With regard to the warnings Salah launched that the occupation will wage a war on Jerusalem, Qassem said: The occupation does not need a war to judaize the al-Aqsa Mosque because this process goes on gradually and slowly. Judaization is continuing and 2010 will not be a decisive year because Judaization needs many years to be done and it is not simple in the international arena.
Odwan disagreed with this view, saying: All indicators clearly show that the occupation will this year exploit Arab vulnerability and incompetence and the American and European bias to the occupation to commit the biggest crime against Jerusalem. He also asserted that the Zionist entity is trying to create new facts on the ground relying on its strength so that waging war against the Palestinian people to achieve its objectives is possible.
Baroud agreed with Odwan, saying in an exclusive statement to the "Palestinian Information Center": Sheik Salah has a very clear-sighted view through which I see that Sheikh Salah is foreseeing what is going to happen in the future as the occupation is trying hard to change the features of the al-Aqsa Mosque and has been successful in 99 % of its schemes. This often happens in the absence of the Arab voice defending al-Aqsa Mosque with the exception of the voice of Salah.
He added: One further step left for the Zionist enemy to do to realize its dreams in Jerusalem. He also asserted that the Zionist enemy is going to make a major event which could be a war, strong artificial earthquake in the Dead Sea, or will give the green light to its gangs and herds of settlers to storm al-Aqsa Mosque dividing and destroying it with the aim of covering the policy of occupation which aims at demolishing and Judaizing Jerusalem.
Calls for a new Intifada "uprising"
With regard to what is required to complete the role of Salah, Odwan said: all Palestinian institutions and the frameworks established for defending the al-Aqsa Mosque should exert pressure to get Sheik Salah released and expose the occupation. This is a crime no less heinous than any other crime committed against Palestinians. There should be Intifada against arresting and exiling leaders so that the occupation knows that arresting leaders is not a picnic and it cannot go unpunished or without violent protests. He also called on all factions to unite, end the division and work on salvaging the holy sites.
He as well called for a new Intifada throughout the occupied Palestine and the world to show the magnitude of danger surrounding the al-Aqsa Mosque. He said that the international community will not respond to our demands unless we did this Intifada backed by Arab and Islamic masses.
On the part of Baroud, he demanded an Arab and Islamic rise starts in the Gaza Strip, and then in the cities of the occupied West Bank because they are closer to Jerusalem. The people of the West Bank should be present daily and continually in the al-Aqsa mosque, if not, the holy sites will be lost for good.
He also wondered: Where do Arab governments, the Arab League, the Organization of the Islamic Conference and their media stop from what is happening in Jerusalem? We call on them to have one stance and to support us.
