I wrote this topic only for Damascus University Group …so please don't post it anywhere else... (And don't steal it for presentations too )
Do you know yourself?
During our lives we meet so many people and we know many people as well, we define their personalities and we know almost everything about them, we know their characteristics, their qualities, their hopes and wishes, what they like and what they hate, what they want and what they need, and sometimes we become a part of their life and even we share them happiness and sadness, we even participate in making their dreams come true… but have you ever stopped for a second and asked yourself this question… "
Do I know myself?"
Two days ago, an old man –in his sixties- told me "after sixty years I failed in discovering myself"…just think a little bit serious about it, it's really hard to become an old man/woman without knowing yourself..Without knowing what you wanted in your whole life and what you lived for… it's not a matter of goals or dreams only, it's a matter of trying to discover yourself before discovering other's…
You might ask "
What are the benefits of knowing myself?"
Now you have to think more seriously… knowing yourself helps you crystallize your basic principles and values in your life clearer than before… it makes you define your qualities and characteristics which ones are good and which ones are bad, it means you'll judge yourself fairly before people judge you and sometimes criticize you. Also discovering yourself gives you the ability to distinguish what you really need and what you really want; furthermore, you'll be able to classify your wishes, your hopes, your dreams and your goals, by this way you can put the right plans to achieve what's most important to you in your life.
Likewise, it allows you to balance your heart and your mind, and then you'll be able to take the right decisions which satisfy both.
Now the most important question is "
How can I get to know myself?"
It's not a simple question actually because this is a true adventure you have to go through it by yourself, no one can help you but you, so here are some questions you should ask yourself about…
-what are your principles in life? Do you think they're good or not?
-what are the most positive qualities in you? And what are the negative ones?
-Do you know what you really need and what you really want?
(Pay attention to what you need because it's more important than what you want)
- What are your dreams and hopes in life?
-what are your goals? Write them on a sheet of paper and see whether or not you achieve any of them, and don't you ever throw that paper away.
-Do you satisfy your heart or your mind most of the time? Try not to draw limits between them and figure out the right ways to satisfy both at the same time.
Just try to answer these questions honestly and you'll get to know yourself.
At last, remember that what happened in the past is done, so try to get the positive things from your experiences even if they were bad at that time and start over again, and never forget that Allah is with you all the time all the way, so don't give up your faith and believe in yourself, by this nothing impossible can stand in your way.
With my best wishes to all of you…and have a nice journey discovering yourselves.
White Jasmine…
